Glowworms at McLarens Falls

January 24th, 2019

Our big old Canadian canoe

An exhilarating paddle up the McLarens Falls lake was the perfect  way to finish an extremely hot day. McLarens  Falls  is a 190 hectare  lakeland park about 10 minutes from Tauranga heading towards the Kaimai Ranges. The night was still and the lake calm as we launched our canoe and started paddling, taking in all the beautiful scenery and the sounds  of the varied bird life. We live in paradise and all this beauty is on our doorstep. How lucky are we?  Arriving at the gorge we waited patiently until dusk and took in the gorgeous sight of the multitudes of glowworms. With great reluctance we headed back down the lake in the dark (guess who left the headlights back at the landing!) enjoying the peace and serenity along the way. This little piece of Paradise is    a popular spot for camping, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and bush and lake walks and is a regular place to visit for us. We can park our caravan and enjoy all the activities including a great little cafe with a fabulous family atmosphere.
